February's Flower: Violets and Primroses

The month of February has two flowers that it can call its own: the violet and the primrose. The violet is a small, dainty flower that adds a vintage feel to a bouquet, especially when the entire bouquet is made up of violets. And referring again to the site, meaning-of-flowers.com, the violet means "simplicity and modesty."  It's a beautiful and elegant touch to any arrangement.

The second flower is the primrose. This beautiful flower means "wealth and success".  To put a more creative spin on incorporating the month's flower into your special day, consider using the flower as a more functional part of your wedding. For example, Anna Whitford makes these beautifully elegant ring pillows that come in several different styles including the "daisy," "dahlia," "gerbera," "primrose," and "waterlily."  But for the sake of highlighting February's flower, we'll just look at the "primrose." The pillow below is the "primrose" in dusky pink and gold, and it is beautiful, but what is so great about these pillows is, Anna Whitford makes each pillow to order, so it can be as unique as you are.

Or perhaps a subtle, yet romantic way to include your flower is in a whimsical bolero to wear over your dress. This bolero is by BHLDN, and it is gorgeous.

The main thing to remember while planning your wedding is to have fun and make it you!

Six Golden Globes Trends

Last night, the Golden Globes brought us a beautiful night of fashion.  Most of the dresses fell into one of several categories: deep, rich jewel tones, black, and muted pastel tones, among a few others. Some of these girls knocked it out of the park while others missed.  I'll let you decide for yourself who did what. As you browse, imagine these gorgeous dresses starring in your own wedding-once we find look-alikes, unless of course, your budget for the big day includes designer gowns for the wedding party.  Enjoy!

SMOKIN' IN SILVER

ELEGANT IN BLACK

QUIRKY IN COLOR
WHIMSICAL IN MUTED TONES

It was a fun night for fashion and a great look into what the year 2012 holds for red carpet glamour!  All of the women looked beautiful, even if it was in their own "special" way...but a few really stood out to me.  Dianna Agron's red lace Giles Deacon dress was so beautiful, and Dame Helen Mirren was demure and classy in her sapphire Badgley Mischka gown. Salma Hayek wowed, showing off her amazing body in a black Gucci gown with gold embellishment on the bodice, and Zooey Deschanel was adorably cute in her black Prada gown with a punch of neon green. Charlize Theron looked absolutely stunning in her Dior Couture dress with a thigh high slit and of all the headbands worn last night, her 1920 Cartier collection headband was TO DIE FOR. Jessica Chastain looked gorgeous in her Givenchy gown and dripping in Harry Winston jewels. And last but certainly not least, Jessica Alba's soft berry hued Gucci dress was striking when the spotlight hit it, and she looked fantastic!--let's not forget she had her second baby just five months ago!

Oh how we love awards season! So if you fell in love with any of these dresses and totally pictured something like it starring in your own wedding, give it a week or two and knockoffs will be everywhere.  Until then, head over to The Huffington Post and rate your favorite dresses!  And remember, take a few cues from these ladies but make sure your big day is YOU!

Top 3 Everlasting Bouquets

With spring around the corner, wedding season will be in full bloom and so will the bouquets. But this season, consider a more quirky, unique bouquet that we like to call "everlasting bouquets," because they last beyond the wedding. Made of nonperishable materials, these are the ultimate keepsakes to remember your special day. Not to mention, they are BEAUTIFUL! Here are my top three favorite kinds of everlasting bouquets.

Shells
These would be perfect for a destination wedding, or perhaps for a bride who just wants to bring an element of the beach to her. Whatever the case, shells are a fantastic touch.

Feathers
Feathers are an incredibly chic and sassy alternative to flowers. And to keep the bouquet within the everlasting guidelines, try using silk flowers to compliment the feathers rather than fresh flowers.

And if you feel that a full feather bouquet is too much for you, use feathers to simply accent your bouquet.

Brooches
And last, but certainly not least, my favorite kind of everlasting bouquet: the brooch bouquet. It is beautiful, can be tailored to suit a bride specifically, can be sentimental, and did I already say beautiful? Finally, I've found a fantastic use for my great-great-grandmother's old brooches!

And how about this gorgeous creation? Incorporating fabric flowers, feathers AND garnet brooches! It is, in my opinion, the ultimate, exquisite everlasting bouquet.

Flowers are classic. There is no doubt about that. But everlasting bouquets are fun! This is your day, so be creative and do what you want to do! The possibilities are endless.

2011 Oscars and Upcoming Trends

As the 83rd Academy Awards aired last night, the red carpet was full of glamour and inspiration.  As awards were presented, several trends presented themselves on the carpet and will be sure to influence seasonal fashion.  Jennifer Aniston's infamous braid from the 2009 Oscars comes to mind.

However, the 2011 Oscars possessed its own set of trends.  So indulge in these beautiful pictures from People's Oscars' fashion recap, which was so kind as to break down the trends for us, and envision yourself pulling these looks off wherever you find yourself this year!

Mandy Moore is wearing the Monique Lhuillier gown from her spring/summer collection!!!

These form-fitting gowns were so flattering on these statuesque women.

Stick straight hair looked sleek and effortless. Although, I must admit, I'm more of a volume girl.

The short waves are a nice change from the long, flowing locks we so often see.

And lucky Anne Hathaway had the privilege of having eight outfit changes, and I must say, I didn't necessarily hate any of them!  The white Givenchy Haute Couture bustier dress could most certainly double as a radiant wedding dress!

These gorgeous dresses are seen on celebrities, who star in movies, but check back soon to see where you can get the looks for less, and just maybe they'll be starring in your wedding!
